2026 Whitewater Rulebook

These are the latest up to date rules put forth by the whitewater pullers for the 2026 pulling season, and are to be followed to ensure fair and safe competition.

Single Engine Modified Tractor

GENERAL RULES (REVISED 2026)

1.    Weight not to exceed 6200 LBS 
2.    Drawbar Height 20 inches maximum from top of hitch 
3.    Drawbar Length 18 inches minimum from center line of rear axle 
4.    A maximum of one 8-cylinder engine no greater than 575 cu. In. displacement with one spark plug per cylinder. Head used must fit a stock valve cover gasket. Stock bore spaced blocks only.(no spread bore blocks)  
5.    Modified tractors are allowed to run on alcohol or gas (naturally aspirated single carburetor or mechanical injection) No electronic fuel injection allowed. Must use a cast aluminum intake with a maximum height of 11” from china rail to carb flange (spacers may be added and not included in height dimension), no tunnel ram or sheet metal intakes allowed. 
6.    Electric fuel pumps allowed but they must be wired to the kill switch. 
7.    All engine exhausts must exit upwards. 
8.    Alternators must be shielded 360 degrees with 1/16-inch metal. No engine drive fans allowed. 
9.    All engine dampers to be bolted to the crankshaft and be shielded 360 degrees with ¼ inch metal in a circle around the outside diameter of the balancer or SFI approved balancer. 
10.    Throttles to be a two-way dead-man type. All foot throttles must have a toe strap. 
11.    Engine outside shielding must extend from the base of the head to 2 inches below the bottom center of the crankshaft throw. Frames are acceptable 
12.    Maximum tire size is 30.5 (wide rear tire). Radials are permitted. Maximum rear tire rolling tire circumference is 210” when inflated to 10 PSI 
13.    Fenders on all tractors must be constructed so that no part of the driver’s body can come in contact with the rear tires. 
14.     All tractors must be no longer than 14 feet from the center of the rear axle forward. 
15.    No row crop, single wheel, tricycle or narrow fronts allowed for this class and front axles must be in track of rear tires 
16.    Weights must be securely fastened on brackets and not extend rearward beyond the rear tires and not on tractor platform. Weights must not obscure hitching procedure. 
17.    All modified tractors must have two supports of sufficient strength bolted to the frame and differential housing to prevent the tractor from splitting. 
18.    Must have stabilizer bars with skid pads capable of supporting the tractor’s weight. No wheels allowed. 
19.    Drawbars to be fastened no higher than the center of the rear axle on differential housing. 
20.    All driveshafts must be shielded 360 degrees with a minimum ¼ inch metal. Inside diameter should not exceed 2” more than the outside diameter of the largest universal joint. Shields must be bolted together with 3/8-inch bolt or larger, with a minimum of 3 bolts down each side, no more than 6” apart. 
21.    All tractors must have a switch that will allow starting in neutral or park only. 
22.    All vehicles with ignition type (gas, alcohol etc) engines must use a kill switch to control the electrical ignition and the electric fuel pump if equipped. Ignition type vehicles with high pressure mechanical pumps must also use and inline fuel dump valve controlled from the driver’s compartment within easy reach of driver. All shut offs and/or electrical kill switch cables and hook rings must be located in center rear of the vehicle above the point of hitch. The hook ring must be a minimum of 2 inches in diameter and be solid or welded, and must be a breakaway style, or the cable must pull completely from the vehicle. 
23.    Modified tractors must have a white light on the dashboard and one with 6 inches of the kill switch to indicate when the vehicle is in the reverse position. 
24.    All tractors must have a 2-1/2 lb. fire extinguisher compatible to the fuel being used and be convenient to the driver. 
25.    All drivers must wear a complete SFI approved fire suit (minimum requirements – single layer fire suit, balaclava, fire boots). No leather footwear allowed. Seat belts are mandatory and must be worn. 
26.    Standard transmission must use SFI approved steel bell housing, complete with 3/16 inch block plate and .090” thick liner recommended. Clutch and flywheel must be SFI approved. 
27.    All automatic transmissions must have reverse lockout. Automatics must be shielded or use SFI approved blanket from back of block to rear tailstock.
28.    All modified tractors must have a roll cage. Cage must be constructed to be able to support the weight of the tractor. 
29.    Agricultural type tractor rear ends only. Skidder rear ends allowed.

2WD Truck

GENERAL RULES (REVISED 2026)
2-wheel drive modified truck class
1) Engine must be in stock location, which is defined as being within the engine compartment
as manufactured, behind stock grill, and in front of the stock firewall.
2) The vehicle may run without a radiator, and the engine may move forward or back if it
maintains RULE #5 in the engine section. Except for high performance type starters with
crankshaft drive, the rear of the engine block may not be moved forward of the center line of
the front axle.
3) Engines are allowed to run a maximum of 2 valves per cylinder head and one spark plug per
cylinder.
4) Fuel injections, carburetors, and headers may protrude through the hood.
5) The vehicle must have vertically existing exhaust with the pipe being a minimum of foot
above the hood line and may only have a 10- degree variance in any direction.
6) The weights must be securely fastened to the vehicle and must not extend further than
15 feet (180 inches) from the center line of the back axle. (NEW 2026)

7) The weights cannot extend past the point of hitch at the rear of the vehicle.
8) The max vehicle weight is 6200 lbs. See Rule #41. (NEW 2026)
9) Maximum tire size 15.5 x 36 inches.
10) “V” tread, cutting and grooving tires are not permitted.
11) Goodyear Terra tires and DOT tires are permitted.
12) 477 cubic inch max engine size.
13) The engine must be naturally aspirated.
14) Stroking and de-stroking of the engines is permitted.
15) Only cast-iron blocks permitted. Aftermarket blocks and cylinder heads, if they are of cast
type.
16) Aluminum cylinder heads are permitted.
17) A single carburetor, or fuel injection system is permitted only if the factory equipped it for
that year of truck or block.
18) A dual carburetor is permitted if the vehicle in question removes 100lbs. (NEW 2026)
19) Open headers are permitted and must exit either in a vertical fashion (within ~10 degrees
vertical) or down and exit towards the rear of the vehicle.
20) Any intake, ignition, cam, piston, or dome will be permitted.
21) Alcohol, nitrous and its equipment or any other oxygen carrying fuel additives is not
permitted.
22) Any clutch or torque converter may be used, aftermarket included.
23) Any stock automotive transmission and transfer case may be used.
24) Quick change transmissions and transfer case are not permitted.
25) Any automotive type of rear end may be used and does not have to match manufacturer of
vehicle competing.
26) Quick change rear ends are not permitted. If the competitor is using ruxle rear-end, they
must not be able to change speeds from within the driving compartment.
27) Planetary rear ends are permitted.

28) Fan and water pump must be shielded: except electric fans and water pump do not have to
be shielded.
29) All harmonic balancers must be shielded, unless it’s SFI. (NEW 2026)
30) Steel inner fenders and engine side shields must be present and must extend to the top of
the piston travel.
31) All u-joints must be shielded 360 degrees within a 1\4” steel and must be a minimum of 6”
in width.
32) All drive shafts must have 3 loops of 360 degree 1\4” steel or 3/8 aluminum and be a
minimum of 1” in width. (Two-piece drive shaft must have six (6) loops). (NEW 2026)

33) Scatter shields must be 360 degrees fully surrounding the flywheel.
34) Drawbar must be rigid in all directions and must not be able to move during competition .
35) Hitch hole to be 3 x 3 3\4” in diameter.
36) All trucks must have rear working brakes.
37) There shall be no hood alterations except to allow clearance for fuel and exhaust.
38) Fiberglass bodies and replacement body parts will be permitted.
39) Vehicles with less than stock size window openings must have an escape hatch with a
minimum size 17 inches x 18 inches or large enough for driver to exit. (NEW 2026)

40) The max length of vehicle shall be no longer than 15 feet from center of rear axle to the
furthest point of the vehicle. (NEW 2026)
41) Any vehicle that is built using a truck body that falls outside of the OEM-style steel body
(i.e. Super 2WD fiberglass bodies) must weigh no more than 6000 lbs at the scale. (NEW
2026)

42) Kill switch is mandatory and must meet NTPA rules.
43) Back up lights are mandatory.
44) Neutral safety switch is mandatory.
45) Fire extinguishers are mandatory.
46) Batteries and fuel tank cells must be kept outside of driving compartment.
47) All two wheel drive trucks must have two (2) wheelie bars located at the rear most part of
the vehicle.
